The Things I Learned
Information technology can always be integrated in any aspect, whether for personal life or career development. IT matters a lot most especially in the age of rapid technological advances. These contributions in the field of information technology, helped a lot of individuals, business, and economies to grow because of the improvements in the productivity as well as the accuracy of the outputs produced in a certain process.
This course made me more knowledgeable on the topics included in the course outline such as basic concepts on information technology, innovation management, information system strategic planning, internet and the network, knowledge management, ethical practices, as well as the responsible use of social media.
This subject also made me realize that there are a lot of applications and tools, such as the Kahoot!, Mentimeter, Google docs, virtual classrooms, and the like, that can be used to facilitate learning in a classroom setting.
Furthermore, this subject pushed myself to the limit to do things I’ve never done before, like vlogging. From the concept to the content, shooting the video, and editing clips to have a final output. And fortunately, I did it, and still thinking whether to continue vlogging because I enjoyed doing it (We’ll see!).
And of course, lastly, doing the database using Microsoft Access. I already had a bit of experience in making database but that was during my undergraduate years so some of the lessons I learned before were already forgotten. Good thing, this subject helped me refresh my memory in doing these database systems again. However, of course, I cannot master everything that is taught but I gained substantial knowledge on these matters.
After all the discussions, examinations, laboratory works, and academic outputs, I can say that information technology matters to me in my personal life especially with the use of social media, and from that it will certainly be beneficial to work most especially in the communication process and the process of generating the outputs needed in the organization.
Software Piracy
Software is very essential most especially when integrating an information system that will help do tasks easier, faster, and more accurate. Application of software in a certain operational process will specifically do tasks with proper direction and procedures set by the program software. This will certainly address the problems that the employees encounter in an organization to be more efficient in their work.
Usually these software applications come for free or you have to pay for it. One of the most common software programs is the Microsoft Office. Microsoft Office is a very popular software and are widely used in different organizations and different industries. This software includes different applications such as MS Word, MS Excel, MS Powerpoint, MS Access, MS Outlook, and etc. Because this is widely used, often times this software is pirated by others for them to have a copy and use it without license.
This kind of software piracy occurs for some reasons. One factor is the price of the software in the market. Also, people think it is not worth their investment because they do not usually see the real value of this software and lastly, the spreading of pirated copy because it is easy to download online. People have always access to the internet, and people can download whatever they want including this software. Sometimes they are unaware that these are just unlicensed copies downloaded and it is hard for us to blame these people for a fact that, unconsciously, you also do this kind of practice. Maybe all we can do is to be aware of this kind of practice and also tell or inform the others as well so that awareness in software piracy will be heightened up.
Because of this concern, software companies are experiencing lost sales due to the software piracy. Even if the government has laws and regulations regarding this concern, there is no strong implementation of the penalties and sanctions. Maybe one thing that these software companies can do is to check the availability online and report the sites that allow pirating their software.
With the advent of technology and its exponential development, people opt to use gadgets and the latest technologies for their own convenience. And with the help of the internet, it helps us provide every information that you want as long as it used for good and not to harm others.
Knowledge is the Key
In every organization, every individual is given a specific task or responsibility that is within the scope of his or her job description. These tasks vary depending on the level of position that the employee is holding in the organization. The higher the position, the higher the responsibility is expected from you.
With the different degree of responsibilities that is expected from the employees, the knowledge possessed also varies from one person to another. However, some organizations consider understudies for a certain position. These people are very significant most especially during the absence of the person in charged. This is one of the reasons why Knowledge Management is important in every organization.
According to G.W. Reynolds, in his book Information Technology for Managers, Knowledge Management is defined as a practice concerned with increasing awareness, fostering learning, speeding collaboration and innovation, and exchanging insights. With this, I believe that our organization will truly benefit from this kind of managerial practice considering that I am working in an education institution wherein each instructor has a specific subject to teach to his or her students.
Teaching indeed is a noble profession because this is when you can share to your students what you learned from your education and experiences. In this field of knowledge, each teacher has hos or her own specific area of expertise. Thus, knowledge management is very important in this aspect because whatever happens to the instructor, there is no direct substitute that will take charge and manage the class and will be able to continue the discussions.
However, this will not be an easy thing to do because not all teachers possess the same abilities on the said subject of expertise. Implementing this managerial practice is time consumingbbecause you to study and internalize the topics that you have to teach. This also needs double effort for you most especially if it is not directly related to your field. In effect, the students cannot absorb the whole thing being dicussed in a certain topic. Beyond these barriers, it is still best for the organization to implement knowledge management practices.
“Knowledge is power but knowledge sharing is empowerment.” This line suggests that possessing sufficient knowledge entails greater power and responsibility but once this knowledge you possessed is shared and imparted with others, you are already making other people more informed and knowledgeable.

By improving these communication processes, the organization can build a better relationship to its employees, managers, suppliers, and customers.
From these opportunities that the internet and wireless technologies will bring to the organization, it will result to an overall increase in the productivity level of the organization. In effect, the organization can establish its reputation to the people and to its customers labeled as an effective organization with a well-structured communication using advance technologies.
Organizations must also take advantage of these technologies considering that the workforce mostly composed of millennials who are very literate with these kind of stuff. Millennials are also very competent and eager to learn new knowledge and skills when it comes to work. Whatever tasks that are given to them they can certainly perform at their best producing results that are of quality.
In addition to this, the organization must also invest to these technologies so that these opportunities will be materialized and the organization can also achieve its goals. This will also serve as one of their greatest resource because this will be the medium to every transaction in every aspect in the within and outside the organization.

According to Henry Mintzberg: Management is, above all, a practice where art, science, and craft meet. This line tells us that management is not only just one aspect in the business but a combination of some. Managers involve different duties and responsibilities in the daily operations of the business. A lot of tasks are needed to be accomplished in order to meet the deadlines, thus, the managers need to possess the knowledge and skills to meet the minimum requirements that the company is demanding from him.
Since managers are expected to do things out of their respective tasks, they must have certain characteristics that will help them perform these tasks with positive output and best results. From my point of view, these managers must always be open-minded, a good motivator, and an innovative leader.
One trait that a manager should possess is being open-minded. Open-minded to all the possibilities that could happen and maximizing all the benefits entailed which those changes. From these changes that could probably have an effect to the organization, some managers are still hesitant to these changes because they are still used to the processes that they are practicing within the organization. However, if these will be properly address by informing the managers that these changes will give benefits, maybe there will be a point in time that these managers will be convinced and shift to the new and revolutionary ideas and processes that help increase their performance and productivity.
From this trait of being open-minded, it also suggests that the manager should also be an innovative leader. Being an innovative leader possesses traits that would facilitate the organization into a more progressive and productive through the use of the current technologies available at hand or the potential technologies that they will initiate to hasten the work with accuracy and fast speed. Also, this will help the organization to bring out the best in their performance and finding their organization on top of their industry.
Lastly, without this trait, everyone else in the organization has no reason to do work or even to stay in the organization. A manager needs to be a good motivator because these managers deal with people with different characteristics and personalities, considering also that each employee has different mental, emotional, and physical capacity. Being a good motivator must make his or her people be more than satisfied of what they already have taking into account also that the majority of the workforce are the millennials, who are very competent in every aspect of work, in which they prefer to work in a place that they find happiness and satisfaction.
These traits are just some that the managers should possess in order for them to be more successful in reaching their organizational goals most especially when they are participating in making decisions in the aspect of information system, which is very vital in the daily operations of the business.
Change is Coming
Strategies are set of well thought ideas and processes that an organization is applying and doing to realize their goals. But before these strategies are being implemented, these were studied for them to know the possible effects of the strategies to the organization and its environment. Once implemented, the organization will have to monitor and oversee the processes so that they have the knowledge first-hand what is going on whether they have positive or negative effects.
In the field of information technology, strategic planning must be applied because this aspect of the organization is very vital and significant when it deals with the operations and other departments.
However, this process may seem difficult and some managers resist to such changes. There are a lot of factors that hinder these top level managers to accept changes in the processes inside the organization even if these changes will bring more benefits and will be advantageous on the daily operations of the organization.
With this existing problem, and actually common among organizations, what better way to convince top level managers than to present the possible prevailing unapparent problems? An initial step to let these managers know is for them to be informed that such problem exists and other possible problems will come into the picture. Once they knew these problems, they should accept the fact that the organization needs to change its existing practices or processes to provide solutions to these problems. From this, top level managers will consider the fact that change has to be done within the organization.
Furthermore, the implementation of the ISSP will surely be a value added resource that would certainly be a good investment of money. Considering at first that there will be an outflow of a big sum of money but the benefits that the company will have will be totally compensated. Taking for instance the accuracy of the outputs and results of the employees on the day-to-day operations, this benefit will surely change the way things are going through on the organization because errors now will be lessen and the time and effort that the employees are giving will not be put to waste. In effect, the productivity level of the organization will increase as well as its efficiency and effectiveness.
Indeed ISSP plays a vital role in the organization and to the people who are running the company. Giving solutions to problems will resolve issues and addressing the matter with well-planned and well-structured information system as long as everyone in the organization is cooperative and open for such changes that could actually give benefits to the entire organization.

As the rapid development of technologies and all around the world, some things are yet to be discovered, invented, and innovated. Innovations do not only consider introduction or implementation of a new product, idea, or method, but it involves multiple activities that uncover new ways to do things. By definition, we can therefore say that indeed innovation is needed and is important for the development and growth of a certain environment.
Innovation plays a significant role to an individual and to its environment. Each person has a need to do things correctly with the least possible time. As a millennial under the workforce of the country, the demands of the society and the organization will push yourself up to your limits testing your patience and putting pressure to produce outputs with grater effectiveness and better efficiency. Thus, this can contribute to the achievement of the goals of the organization. However, one cannot attain these goals if there are limitations that will hinder especially in the aspects of technology and innovation.
We cannot deny the fact that change is inevitable. Accommodating these changes and use them to your advantage will aid organization to also hasten its productivity and progress. These further developments and betterments in the aspect of technology will certainly help individuals carry out best possible outputs with the help of latest technologies and innovation available.
With these innovations, managers in an organization utilize whatever resources they have. There are some instances that managers try to avoid these changes because they are already contented or used of the processes that existed within the organization, however, these changes and innovations are risks that the managers would take to know whether that the new idea or process that will be adapted is more efficient and effective considering cost-benefit analysis and factors that will affect the decision of the management.
Hesitations on the adaptation of these changes in the environment of the organization are a major concern most especially when the employees and the managers do not want such changes. In order for them to be encouraged to these innovations, they should be presented by the short run results and long term impacts that would bring benefits and advantages to the company in comparison to the current situation that they are experiencing. Even if they are used to such ideas and processes there is always a need for a change because if ever that the organization will not adapt for such, they will certainly get left behind from others.

For example, if a person wants to track his or her expenses, he or she can actually get a financial tracker application to monitor his or her receipts and disbursements of money. In addition to this, if a person seeks to check his or her health status, there are applications that will help them do this. These are just some applications that an individual may use depending on their needs.
The impacts of the advancements of information technology can be felt not only on the personal level but also in the organizational level. Organizations use different technologies that will help them more productive and thus achieving efficiency and effectiveness. As in the case of our organization, we are a new educational institution that tries to integrate to a centralized database system in order for the organization to process documents, produce outputs, and other jobs and tasks in a shorter period of time and will increase organization’s productivity.
Lastly, with the rise of information technology developments, social media platforms has been very effective in relaying information to users and connecting people from the different parts of the world via networks and internet connections. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube are just some of the most popular social media sites that give and share information to people. These social media sites can be very helpful as per personal experience as long as it is used correctly and defeating its purpose.
Information technology is of great help to us people. We just have to remember that this is provided to us for our advantage and should not be abused or exploited for it will be very dangerous.
